One for the Girls

It would have been too easy to give my helper a little jesting nudge, but he kept his cool like a champ. Logan was the chief demonstrator as I was just a day out of hospital. Four girl riders with their own session, three of whom not far off his age. Yet they too were there for a purpose and didn’t get distracted for a moment. Or showed any distraction at least. This was our girls session at Pirinis earlier this month, one which proved to be well worth the delay in my return home.

Practice Makes Perfect

Nothing teaches good technique and consistency like a soft, rutted turn. We must have gone over that stretch of track fifty times at least but by the end of it, the girls were ready for any turn on the track.

Jumping was similar, but with the jumps at Pirinis being so forgiving, we made things a little more challenging by running through the skills of whipping. Each had their own style and got a handle on how it was done, but we all agreed that it was Pitri who had it the best. And after some work on kickers they were set, ready for timed laps at full speed for the burn out they deserved.

But they weren’t the only ones to have a little fun, with some of our most regular customers having their turn that afternoon. They were Mitchell and Zinzan Jeffries, joined by Nadia and Georgia. This small team have been great to work with and although only Mitchell has made each session I must admit that the improvements they have made during our short time together have made me rather proud.

That day they tore up the Pirinis Park with confidence, learning their own whips and front brake use to handle those ruts. And while it was very good to get home following by big south island trip, I couldn’t have asked for a better delay.
