We were taught a lesson on the power of advertising this month as we did something a little different. While we have always said that coaching is easily available in Tauranga, we rarely advertise a special day. When we finally did so, there was a bunch of people keen to have a go.
Riders from all walks of life enrolled. There was the father and son team of Sam and Bruce who used their competitive relationship as motivation to soak up the skills. Steffen, a long time road bike rider newly turned to dirt who was able to make it on paternity leave. Kids such as Will, Zach, Kyan, Rhys and Josh- some we have seen before and others excited to learn. These all joined forces as we split them into two seperate half day sessions on another bright winters day.
Lance Carter was different in that he had a one on one where we spent time testing bike set ups along with the coaching. The coolest thing was staying quiet when he said that there was no way he was clearing the step up when I was pretty sure he would try by himself with the right technique, and before long seeing him get it absolutely dialled.
Then there was our ladies group, one which had Broxy stressing. After postponing the first Sunday due to over night rain, it was looking worse for our second try. Not wanting to postpone a second time we went ahead this time and were rewarded with a clear day. They were our Taupo crew with one new addition so after an excursion up, down and around the big bowl, we finished with a bunch of wheelies topped off with a visit from Sarah and the littlies with baking in hand.
The whole month was a much needed relief. It seems there is a plenty to achieve right here on our back doorstep.
