Otago Uprising

It has been a long time since I have driven the Tourist roads down past the Moeraki Boulders to Palmerston, which is a sad thing as I love the place and the people. While the crews that I knew from Waimate and Kurow have moved on, and the Oamaru club has closed down, we discovered that yes, there is a new generation coming through. And they are as fired up as ever.

World Class Locals

The Clearwater family are lucky enough to have their own track, and more than that, they have the one and only Courtney Duncan just down the road who comes visiting to ride the track and coach them. I was able to tweak their skills to point where we were working on whips, and looking forward to more in the future.

Below Dunners

Further down the line at Titri Park I coached more people from Oamaru ways who were very keen to get involved with something closer to them when we next get the chance. Titri itself was a great place to get back to. Members from the club have obviously put in a huge amount of work, including a watering system that Caleb Holmes helped install, who was one of our students at Balclutha on my final day of coaching.

We also have a group from Waimate that is keen for our attention, which I hope will fuel the fire even more. Otago is alive and kicking. I can’t wait to get back down there again.
